Every Khowsuey Recipe Has A Story
Every Khowsuey Recipe Has A Story
No two bowls of Khow Suey are ever the same. Some like extra crunch, some pile on toppings and some have their own secret finishing touch.
We think that's worth celebrating!
Maybe it’s your mother’s version, rich with coconut and comfort. Maybe it’s the recipe your neighbour made every monsoon.
Maybe it’s the one you learnt from a friend and now make your own.
We’re creating a community Khow Suey zine and we’d love for your recipe to be a part of it.
Share your Khow Suey recipe, the memories attached to it, and the little details that make it special.

What is The Khowsuey Project?

Khowsuey doesn't belong to any one place or person, & every family makes it differently. As part of the Khow Suey Project, we are creating an archive of recipes to document the stories behind them & what makes them special.
Because no two bowls of Khow Suey are ever quite the same.
Every family has its own version—passed down by mothers and grandmothers, perfected by neighbours, adapted by friends, and recreated in kitchens across generations. Each recipe carries memories, rituals, and personal touches that can’t be found in a standard recipe book.

We compile it into a limited-edition zine & share it with the world.
At Burma Burma, we’ve always believed that food is also a way of preserving stories. This zine is our attempt to collect the many lives of Khow Suey—through your memories, recipes, and traditions.
Send us your recipe by 5 July and become part of this community archive of comfort, nostalgia, and shared tables.
We are making a zine
All submissions welcome. Whether you cook from memory, from a notebook, an accidental 2 am experiment or from a voice note your mom sent.
