Step Into Yangon’s Legacy at Burma Burma, DLF Promenade

A Living Archive of Burma’s Colonial Past

Team Burma Burma

At Burma Burma, every restaurant carries its own distinct design story. Each one highlights a different facet of Burma’s rich cultural and historical tapestry. For our newest restaurant at DLF Promenade, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, that story is inspired by one of the country’s most iconic landmarks – The Strand Hotel in Yangon.

Inspired By An Icon Of Yangon

An enduring symbol of Burma’s colonial past, The Strand stands as a living archive of its history and contemporary spirit. With colonial textures and vintage accents, it offers a charming pause amidst Yangon’s buzzing shopping district, evoking both nostalgia and refined elegance.

Once described by John Murray as “the finest hostelry east of Suez,” The Strand has long represented thoughtful service, quiet luxury, and effortless grace. Over the years, it has welcomed travellers, writers, and dreamers, each drawn to its serene blend of imperial charm and modern finesse.

Design That Unfolds Like A Memory

Step inside Burma Burma at DLF Promenade, and the design unfolds like a story. The flooring pattern reimagines traditional colonial tiles, while the tea bar, clad in cane panelling and detailed wooden mouldings, recalls the golden age of travel. Behind it, a feature wall tiled with The Strand’s insignia instantly transports guests to a different era, suspended between past and present.

Every detail carries a whisper of craftsmanship and care. The walls feature vintage advertisements and memorabilia alongside a wallpaper originally used at The Strand, framed with mouldings, and each element grounds the space in Burma’s layered identity.

Adding to this are pagoda-shaped pendant lights, colonial-style ceiling fans, and arched screens displaying framed postcards. These elements come together to create an immersive storytelling experience, where every glance and gesture connects guests to a time when craftsmanship and hospitality defined the Burmese way of life.

Carrying The Legacy

At Burma Burma, we carry this legacy forward – with thought and care. Just as The Strand offered a pause in the heart of old Yangon, we offer a pause in the rhythm of today through our space at DLF Promenade, interpreted through flavours, textures, hospitality and warmth.  We remain committed to bringing Burma to you through every experience we create with its stories, artistry, and spirit.
